A woman with a 7-year-old child in her vehicle struck and badly damaged a Carrollton police car that was stopped along Interstate 35E while the officer helped a stranded motorist.

No one was seriously injuried in the crash that occurred shortly before 11 p.m. Saturday.

The police officer had stopped in the 2500 block of I-35E to assist a motorist who had run out of gas, Jon Stovall, a Carrollton police spokesman, said.

He said the squad car’s emergency lights were flashing when the crash occurred.
