A 42-year-old Jersey City police sergeant sustained several broken bones and fractures to a leg, rib, pelvis, and foot after he was struck by a car on Communipaw Avenue this morning.

Sgt. Michael Timmins was leaving the West District precinct on Communipaw Avenue between Monticello and Madison avenues around 5:30 a.m. when he was struck by the 4-door Nissan, which was heading west on Communipaw, police spokesman Stan H. Eason said.

A 17-year veteran of the force, Timmins was listed in serious but stable condition at the Jersey City Medical Center tonight after undergoing several operations, officials said.

No charges were filed against the 36-year-old East Windsor man who was driving the Nissan and stopped at the scene after striking the officer, Eason said.
