Captain Barry Cron is listed in serious condition at Miami Valley Hospital this morning. Officials said Cron was speaking to a victim of a crash who was inside a vehicle. That vehicle was then struck by another, and it pushed the first vehicle into the captain.
His injuries are believed to be non-life threatening, officials said.
Cron has been with the Dayton fire department since 1992 and was promoted to captain in November of 2012, officials said. He works out of Station 13.
The crash occurred on eastbound U.S. 35 near Gettysburg Avenue just before 5:30 a.m. today. It created a crash pileup involving 12 vehicles.
