Officer directing traffic on Newbury Street injured by backhoe that landed on his foot

A Boston police officer was taken to Brigham and Women’s Hospital after a backhoe landed on his foot while he was directing traffic on Newbury Street this afternoon.

Around 12:30 p.m. the front portion of a backhoe doing roadwork near 220 Newbury St. left the ground and came down on the officer’s foot. The officer’s ankle and foot were injured.
