SC trooper injured when chase ends in crash – Index

A trooper was injured in a crash at the end of a pursuit, according to the state Highway Patrol.

At about 11:30 p.m. Thursday, a trooper saw a 2012 Cadillac SUV going 77 mph in a 55 mph zone along U.S. Highway 25 in Greenwood County and attempted to stop the vehicle, according to Lance Cpl. Justin Sutherland. The vehicle did not stop and law enforcement pursued the vehicle into Edgefield County.

During the chase, the SUV veered left, striking a Highway Patrol vehicle and sending both vehicles off the left side of the road where they struck several trees, Sutherland said.

The trooper was taken to Self Regional Medical Center and the SUV’s driver, a 28-year-old Anderson man, was taken by helicopter to Greenville Memorial Hospital. The injuries are not believed to be life threatening.

Sutherland said Ware Shoals police had attempted to stop the same vehicle earlier in the night.

The Edgefield County Sheriff’s Office is investigating.
